We have always liked collaborating – be it in design, parenting, or storytelling. After hopping countries a few times we finally settled in Paris, Ontario, started up Paris Lectures, began a blog about our local adventures, and finally, the pieces fell into place for us to found Jane & Jury design studio. Let us know if you have an idea we can help bring to life, we'd love to work with you.
The Mark and Cassie Story
It’s hard to talk about Mark or Cass without the other. They’ve been inseparable since meeting at work at a digital agency in small-town Surrey, England.
Mark has a degree from northern England in Computer Science, adding digital fluency to a long list of languages including French, Luxembourgish and German. Before falling in love with Cass, he fell in love with the Internet, especially with things that move – animation, video, and interaction design. After working in code for many years, he discovered his passion for graphic design and for taking photos that capture vivid and often personal stories. His knack for patient helpfulness and creative ambition are unparalleled, and his good-natured humour is unflappable. Mark's strengths are his abilities for ambitious creative vision, art direction, interaction design, frontend code, anything that moves – photography, video, animation, experimentation and pushing creative boundaries, and a periodic moustache.
While Mark listens patiently and methodically thinks of every detail, Cassie tends to jump right in. She is never satisfied with the status quo or the usual path and will rarely let not knowing how to do something stop her. She studied Graphic Design at the University of Florida and found success in her career as Design Director at the Mozilla Foundation, speaking around the world and writing articles about the craft of design, teams and process. What gets Cassie excited is the big picture: every person’s ability to impact another person’s life and to make a difference in the world through art, design, writing, or more generally through acting on personal passions. She adores connecting with likeminded folks in creative endeavours, sharing process, and people who make her think or laugh, often at the same time. Cassie's strengths are strategic ideas, graphic design, writing, illustration, digital storytelling, community-building, professional framing, practicality and American directness.
Connection to Paris
Cassie and Mark settled in Paris, Ontario in August 2014 after spending three years in London and Egham, Surrey in England, a brief stint in Cassie’s hometown Orlando, Florida, and nearly six years in west Toronto. They invest in their community wherever they are, but Paris is their first attempt at putting down roots where they intend to raise their family. Inspired by how much local events have helped them find friends and opportunities as they’ve moved around the world, they started Paris Lectures, a speaker and networking series with periodic workshops. They hope Paris Lectures will continue to serve as a linchpin of meaningful connections by celebrating the creative work of talented folks who have established themselves in the community.
